Having made the headlines in 2006 for its impressive three inflorescences at the same time, the Titan Arum at the botanical gardens in Bonn now sets a new record: four fountain-like blooms, albeit from different underground tubers, have developed in just one year. The fourth inflorescence of the huge plant from Sumatra is estimated to open on July 16th. The Titan Arum, the largest flower in the entire plant kingdom, has an impressive history at Bonn: in May 2003 the blooms reached 274 centimetres – a world record, which was only to be beaten two years later at the Wilhelma in Stuttgart by a further 20 centimetres.
