Certificates and Documents

Who ever wants to work as a scientist in Germany must first hand in the various documents and certificates to the authorities. The rule of thumb in Germany is all foreign language documents must be translated by an officially recognised translator. This is possible to have done outside Germany and it will still be recognised – but that is not always the case so it is certain to be recognised if it is done in Germany.

Important: Never hand in originals or original translations, only copies! Official copies of documents can usually be done by the city or local administration to avoid a fee. It is better to first call ahead to make sure that it can be done at that particular office. In special instances, the translator can authenticate photocopies as well. Another place that usually is helpful is the consulate of your country.
